Weekly Wisdom 7.3.17

God’s Word says in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I often have conversations with both Christians and non-Christians who have a difficult time believing that it’s just that easy to accept Christ. Maybe that’s you.

Jesus paid the highest price at no cost to us. If we are honest, we often feel that we don’t deserve salvation or God’s love. We feel that we need to earn it somehow, but we cannot earn God’s love and acceptance. We cannot earn our way into Heaven. If our salvation is based on our ability then Jesus died for nothing. He was tortured, ridiculed, and hung on a cross for nothing. Where is the good news in that?

God’s Word says:

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. – Acts 4:12

We live in a world where you have to work hard to be successful and working hard is not a bad thing, but working for eternal life is unattainable. Even on our best day we could not save ourselves. God makes salvation simple for us because He loves us and He wants to be with us.

Friend, you are so worthy of God’s love. His love for you is not based on you, but on Him. Romans 5:8 says that, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God is love. It’s who He is. It’s what He does. Parents don’t love their kids based on what their kids do or do not do. They love their kids because they belong to them. This is the heart of our Father God: He loves His people because they are His.

We are His.
